Welcome back to Coffee with Cortney. My favorite little virtual coffee shop where I answer FAQs, share things I am going through or talk about topics that are heavy on my heart. Last week I answered some common questions submitted by YOU through my Instagram Story Question Box, this week I’m chatting all things Faith!
With everything going on in the world, my heart has been so heavy! My prayer is “Lord break my heart for what breaks yours. Help me to know who and what to pray for, put it on my heart!”
During this season I do not know how to fix the world, but I know Jesus is the answer for the hurting. He is the answer for the heavy burdened. He has not left us and has not forsaken us, but we a miracle for the world.
I believe in the power of prayer. I also know the Lord says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will heal their land.” and he keeps his promises!
I have ADHD and to be honest spending “quiet time praying” is extremely hard for me. But I will feel the tug at my heart to read my bible or pray. Sometimes it can feel like another task on our “Christian to do list” but that’s exactly what the enemy wants us to feel. When I actually get into praying and reading the word I’m reminded it’s because God wants to spend time with me and speak to me if I will slow down to seek him. He wants to refill my empty cup. It’s not because it’s the “Christian” thing to do today or else I’m in trouble. It’s because He has something good for me. He also wants that same relationship with you. If you feel that tug on your heart, he has something for you! He can open doors no man can close. He can lift your burdens. He can go to the Father on your behalf for what you need! He just simply wants a relationship with you. If you don’t know where to start, tell Him.
I often have people come to me and say, “I’ve never read the Bible because I don’t understand it or where to start”.
So if you are new to getting started in your relationship with Jesus I would love to share a few ways to start diving in deeper and learning more:
• I would recommend starting with “the proverb of the day”. So whatever day of the month it is, example August 10, you’d read Proverbs 10. Then a Psalm (it’s the chapter right before it, so it’s easy to find).
• I love to make a thanksgiving list and thank the lord for the things in my life.
• Prayer requests, even the little things you are asking God to do. It’s amazing to look back on and see how He answered those prayers.
• Praise reports. Oh my favorite! Listing out the miracles God has done for you so you can remember them in hard times.
I will list a few devotions and bibles I love too! They break down one scripture each day. It makes it easy to understand or to dive deeper into:
Isaiah 41:10 (NLT) Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
